School, and Vidya Sagar College, Calcutta; under-graduate; unmarried; Businessman, political and social worker and writer; previously associated with (i) Congress, (ii) Bangla Congress, (iii) Bhartiya Kranti Dal; and (iv) Bhartiya Lok Dal; Commander-in-Chief of Vidyut Bahini and Bhagini Sena, of the National Militia of the Tamralipta Jatiya Sarkar in Midnapore District, Bengal and Minister in-charge of Home Affairs for more than 23 months, 1942—44; Secretary, Sishu Sadan; Secretary, Gopal Smriti Matri Bhawan; Secretary Swami Prajanananda Smrit Raksha Samiti; Secretary Panchayat Raj Training Centre; Secretary Jan Kalyan Samiti; Chairman Jan Kalyan Trust; General Secretary, Bangla Congress; Chairman, West Bengal Bhartiya Lok Dal State Committee; Deputy Chairman, West Bengal State Janata Party; Member Legislative Assembly, West Bengal, 1962—71; Minister in-charge of Commerce and Industry and Block Development and Agro-Industry branch of Agriculture Department in the Government of West Bengal, 1967—70.
