Sources of food:

                 This topic covers what are the various sources of food that animals depend upon. What do the animals eat? Plant parts and animal products are the some examples of sources of foods.

As we all know, food is an essential thing for all kinds of living organisms. Every organism depends on other organism for making their food. For example, larger animals depend on smaller organism for their food, similarly human beings depend on animals for their food.

Plant food products:

                 Plant food products are the different types of food we get from the plants. Plant is the major source of food for vegetables, fruits, seeds and oils. Few of those examples are

Roots: We consume plant roots in the form of carrot, turnips, radish and beetroot.

Flowers: We consume flowers in the form of cauliflower, flowers of pumpkin and few kinds of roses are used to make edible oils.

Stem:

         We eat stem related source of foods from plants such as coriander, sugarcane, potatoes, etc.,

Fruits:

             We get many different types of fruits like fleshy or dry fruits. Fruits like mango, guava, orange, and apple are the important source of food from the plants.

Seeds:

           We eat grains, pulses, ground nuts which are the important sources of foods in the form of seeds from the plants.

Leaves:

       We eat leafy vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, curry leaves which are rich in calcium and vitamins.

Animal food products:

      Just like plants, animals also make many kinds of foods that are very helpful for the human beings.

Milk:

           Animals such as cow, goat, and buffalo are tamed in their own farms to produce milk from them. This is a rich source of food which is rich in calcium.

Eggs:

           Birds like hen, duck are tamed and reared in their poultry farms for their eggs which is rich in protein.

Meat:

       Animals such as goat, cow, pig, duck, sheeps are tamed to get flesh from them which is called as meat.

Dairy products:

         Not only milk, but also other dairy products are made from the milk of animals such as cow, buffalo, donkey, goat, etc.,

Sea food:

       Sea foods like fish, prawns, and crabs are also highly used foods for the human consumption.

Honey:

        This is a product which is obtained from the Honey bee. Honey collects nectar from various fruits and flowers. Such nectars are collected together to form honey.

Components of food:

       Any healthy food consists of six important nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, protein, minerals and water. These nutrients are much necessary to perform various metabolic activities.

Carbohydrates:

               Carbohydrates are the compounds of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and provide instant energy for the human body. Examples: rice, jowar, grains, etc.,

Proteins:

           They are formed by the compounds such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. Protein is required to repair and damage the broken cells in the human body. Example: egg, milk, cheese, etc.,

Fats are made up of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. Fat protects the skin from the rapid loss of heat. Example: Cheese, butter, oil, ghee Vitamins are the chemical substances that help in maintaining a healthy body. Example: Lemon, oranges, tomatoes, etc.,

  • Materials:

         This chapter covers the various topics such as different types of cloth materials, types of plant fibres, and some concepts such as why candle shortens when lighten up, how does salt gets dissolved in a cup of water, etc.,

Fibres:

           Cloth is a basic necessity for any human being to protect his body from the external environment. Such cloths are made up of different fabric materials such as wool, fibre, silk, leather, etc.,

Fibres are of two types such as natural fibre and synthetic fibre. Natural fibre are made from the natural sources of plants and animals such as cotton, jute, silk and wool. Synthetic fibre are man-made fibres which are not obtained from any plants and animals. Example: Nylon, polyster, etc.,

Properties of materials:

           Every material has different property and nature. For example:

Metals:

   Most of the metals are lustrous and shiny in nature. Thus, they are used in jewellery making. For example: Gold, silver, etc.,

Cotton:

               The materials such as cotton or sponge are soft by nature. Thus they are used in making sarees, toys and other soft materials.

Plastics:

           The nature of material is light and transparent sometimes. Thus, they are used in making bottles, jugs, play sets, etc.,

Wood:

         This type of materials is opaque in nature which do not allow light to pass through them. Thus, cupboards are made up of wood.

             This chapter covers the topics such as living and non-living beings characteristics, habitat of the living organisms and morphological structure and function of plants, bones and skeleton system of human beings.

                 Plants can be classified into different types according to their size and nature. They are as

Herbs:

         Herbs are usually short and have a short period of life. They are mainly used in medicine to cure specific diseases.

Shrub:

             This is taller than herb which lives for longer years. Examples are sunflower, rosemary, etc.,

Tree:

           This is a woody plant that has many stems and branches. They prevent soil erosion, maintain carbon dioxide content in the air, and provide us wood and other materials to build up huts and houses. Creepers are the weak plants which cannot stand straight. They grow horizontally on the ground and live for very short period of time.

Body movements:

               Human beings are able to move from one place to another with the help of their muscles, joints and limbs. Thus, the parts in detail

Joint:

       Joint is a point at which two separate bones meet. There are three types of joints in the human beings such as fixed or immovable joints, slightly movable joints and freely movable joints.

Bones and skeleton:

           Bones provide support to the structures in the body whereas Skeleton system of a human body is an internal framework of all the bones and cartilage in the human body.

Living organisms and the surroundings:

                  There are different types of atmosphere and seasons to which all kinds of living organisms must adapt.

Habitat:

               Habitat of an organism is its immediate surroundings. There are two types of habitat such as Terrestrial habitat (Forest, grasslands, desserts, etc) and Aquatic habitat (Freshwater, ponds, lakes, etc.)

Adaptations:

             The ability of any organism to adjust itself to the type of the surroundings is called as adaptation.

Characteristics of a living organisms:

         All kinds of living organism require certain characteristics of life. They are they require food to exhibit growth, need to move, need to excrete, respire, reproduce and die.

These are the basic characteristics of any kind of living organism.

Diploma holders have to study 4 subjects in Section A while others have to study 10 subjects in Section A which are all compulsory subjects. Section B candidate have to pass in 9 subjects for both diploma and non diploma holders. The candidate have to do lab experiments and project work.

Exam Pattern

The exam paper is of written type. The time duration is of three hours. The lab and project work papers, the candidate have to attend viva. Registered candidate are alone subjected to write the exam. There is time limit for the completion of papers in both sections which is 6 years. The candidate can pass the papers as early as possible. No extension is provided to candidate. If they are not able to pass within the stipulated time, they have to start as afresh candidate to complete all the exams including the papers they have already completed. The marks will be calculated only based on the project work and lab practical along with Section B subjects.

Eligibility

Candidate who have passed 10th and 12th in Physics, chemistry and Mathematics or candidates who are completed 3 years diploma degree with minimum percentage are eligible. The candidates with working experience are also eligible. The candidate studying for higher qualification in physics, computer, electrical and electronic field are eligible. Candidate willing to apply studentship must be less than 16 or 18 years. Candidate must enroll themselves as a student before attending the examination. The membership will be valid till the next 10 progressive exams. Students can renew their membership if they are not able to complete their examination within the time period. The renewal is done only once. If they have to renew again then the candidate is considered as fresh enrollment.

Exam Pattern

The candidate has two attend exam .The written test is conducted as two sections with 20 compulsory papers and a project work. The section A consists of two parts. Part A and Part B consist of six and five papers respectively. The section B consists of two parts of five papers and four papers with two compulsory subjects and two elective subjects respectively. This section consists of Project Work also. The candidates who have completed atleast seven papers with50 % aggregate are selected for next section. The candidate who has completed atleast 14 papers can continue the project work. The candidate has to appear for Laboratory practices I and II. To appear in lab practice I atleast if they have completed 7 papers with 50% aggregate and minimum practices and training in their respective field. For appearing in lab practice II if they have completed atleast 14 papers with minimum aggregate of 50%.

The project work can be submitted if the candidate has completed all the 14 compulsory papers.

The candidate will be provided a certificate from AMIETE if they have completed their examination along with their lab practices and project work. The candidate will have to attend viva for both lab and project work.

ICFAI ATIT Exam Information

ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education attained its Deemed University status in the year  1956 .Admission Test for ICFAI Technology is a pre Engineering exam conducted in National Level for the five years Integrated Engineering course. The exam is been held by Federation of Universities. The admission is mainly conducted for five ICFAI campuses across India which is Bhubaneswar, Bangalore, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Dehradun. ICFAI is one of the top 25 private engineering colleges in India. The branches for which admission is conducted are;

  • Civil EngineeringICFAI Foundation
  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Eligibility

  • Candidates who have passed 10th and 12th with minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, English and Mathematics are eligible to apply.
  • Candidate who are awaiting for their results are also eligible butt the candidates ha to submit their original certificates at the time of admission.
  • Candidates who have completed in formal 12 years schooling are eligible. The candidates who have passed in State level/National Level engineering test/JEE (Main)/ATIT are eligible with their scores.
  • If the candidate with ineligibility reasons admission for particular candidate will be cancelled.

Syllabus

The syllabus contains two parts. The first part contains subject wise questions with 80% marks and second part contains experimental skill questions with 20% marks.

Exam Pattern

There will be two modes of exam Online and offline mode. The online mode is computer based with two hours time duration. The offline mode is paper based with two hours time duration. The exam will be conducted at various test centres across India. The answer for offline mode will be marked in OMR sheet.

The question paper consists of questions from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry subjects. Each subject carries 30 marks each. Questions are objective type questions.

Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology Entrance Exam

CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF PLASTIC ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology conducts joint entrance exam in national level for Undergraduate, Post graduate and diploma admissions in Plastic Engineering. The institute constitutes of 16 colleges across the nation to which the entrance exam is conducted. The selection will be based on marks scored by the candidate. The exam is conducted for following courses of plastic design, molding andCentral Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) manufacturing, plastic processing testing and quality. The courses are;

  • B.Tech in Plastic Engineering
  • B.Tech in Manufacturing Engineering
  • M.Tech in Plastic Engineering
  • M.Tech in Nano Technology
  • M.Tech in CAD/CAM/CAE
  • Post Graduate Diploma course in Plastic Processing and testing

Eligibility

B.Tech in Plastic Engineering

Candidate must have passed 10th and 12th with minimum aggregate of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The maximum age limit of the candidate is 21 years.

M.Tech in Plastic Engineering

Candidate must have passed 4 years Undergraduate program in Plastic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or M.Sc. in Polymer Science or chemistry with polymer specialisation. The maximum age limit of the candidate is 35 years.

M.Tech in Nano Technology

Candidate must have passed 4 years of Engineering in Plastics, Polymer, Chemical, or M.Sc. in Polymer Science/Chemistry/Physics/Electronics. The maximum age limit of the candidate is 35 years.

M.Tech in CAD/CAM/CAE

Candidate must have passed 4 years of Engineering in Plastics Technology, Mechanical Production, Tool Engineering, Aeronautics, Automobile, Mechatronics. The maximum age limit of the candidate is 35 years.

Post Graduate Diploma course in Plastic Processing and testing

Candidate must have passed 3 years degree of B.Sc. in Chemistry. The maximum age limit of the candidate is 24 years.

Diploma course in Integrated Programme plasties mould technology

The candidate must have passed 10th with subjects Mathematics, English and Science. The maximum age limit is 19 years. The candidates who are in the final year and waiting for results are also eligible to write the exam. The SC/ST candidates has a age relaxation of 5 years.

Syllabus

The questions for post graduate candidates will be based on their Under Graduate subjects. For other candidates, exam will be based on the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

Exam Pattern

There are two exams. They are;

  1. Preliminary Exam
  2. Main Exam

The questions for both exams are based on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The exam is of online mode. There is no negative marking. The duration of both exams is two hours and three hours respectively. Questions are of multiple choice questions. The exam is normally held in the month of July every year.

  • Fill all the mandatory details
  • After filling all the details, User ID and Password will be generated
  • Using these data, log onto the Application form
  • Fill all the details
  • Upload the photo and signature of the candidate
  • Upload the scanned copies of 10th and 12th mark sheet or diploma certificate of the candidate
  • Pay the fees of R 250 with Credit/Debit or Net Banking to the candidate
  • Recheck all the details
  • Submit the application
  • Take the printout for future reference
  • In case the application form is send through offline mode that is by ending Demand Draft in favour of CIPET payable at Chennai
  • While sending the application form, send the attested copies of 10th and 12th mark sheet or diploma mark sheet
  • SC/ST candidates may download the prescribed format certificate and later fill the certificate and send it along with the application form
  • After the commencement of results, counseling will be started for the allotment of seats based on the rank list
  • Results will be mainly announced in the month of August

 

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE is an entrance exam for Post Graduate and PhD conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Technology in association with Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and National Coordination Board. The GATE score is for the admission of Post Graduate programmes in Indian Institute and providing financial assistance provided by Ministry of Human Resources Development and other Government Agencies. GATE score is also used for the recruitment of entry level jobs in Public Sector Companies. Some of the foreign Universities also identify GATE score to know the eligibility of the candidate. GATE score is also used for Junior Research Fellowship.

EligibilityGraduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

  • Candidate who have passed Engineering in any branch are eligible for the test
  • Master degree candidate who have passed in Science/Mathematics /Statistics/Computer Applications who are in final year or pre final year are also eligible
  • Candidate who are in Third year or higher level for Integrated Master degree are also eligible
  • Applicant must be in minimum age limit

Exam Pattern

The Exam paper consists of objective type questions with questions from General Aptitude, Verbal Reasoning and Subject based questions. The paper consists of 65 questions in Engineering Stream with 10 questions in General Aptitude carrying 15 marks. Based on the codes, the exam question pattern may change. There will be negative marking for each wrong answer. Each question will carry one or two marks. Paper codes are AE,AG,BT,CE,CH,CS,EC,EE,IN,ME,MN,MT,PI,TF AND XE.

  • Engineering Mathematics contains 15% marks
  • General Aptitude contains 15% marks
  • Rest of questions is included for subject wise
  • Paper codes AR, CY, EY.GG, MA, PH and XL
  • General Aptitude contains 15% marks
  • Rest of the marks are allotted to subject wise questions
  • The exam is normally held in the month of February every year
  • The duration of the examination is three hours with 100 marks for the paper
  • The GATE score is valid for three year from the year of passing

Marks to be obtained

  • For general category – 25 to 50 ranges is qualifying marks
  • Other Backward Category – 90% of General Category marks
  • SC/ST  –  2/3 of general category marks

JAMIA MILLIA ISLAMIA ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Jamia Millia Islamia University is one of the oldest university which was established in the year 1920.The University is located at Delhi. The exam paper consists of 170 objective type questions with 55 questions in Physics section, 55 questions in Chemistry Section and 60 questions in Mathematics section. The exams are normally held in the month of April every year.
