To become an Actuary you need aptitude and determination
Securing high marks in board exam and pursuing a career in actuary is a total different ball game all together. The main focus is how good you are in Mathematics and your interest level in the subject. In addition, you should possess a high concentration level, problem solving skills with lots of hard work.
You just need to be above 18 years of age to make a start, but be ever clear you should have a strong grasp of Mathematics knowing it inside out for you to be successful in actuarial science. For a better footing for this career option, opt on subjects like economics, statistics, business studies and finance in class 10 and class 12 do provide you a platform for potential launch. It is, however, observed that students with a first class in graduation and post graduation in subjects like Statistics, Mathematics or Econometrics have a better chance to qualify this tough exam.
Finally, if you decided to hang on become an Actuary, the first step initiating this challenging career is to pass out an entrance test conducted by the Institute of Actuaries of India. The entrance conducted by the institute is the Actuarial Common Entrance Test or the ACET exams. The candidates who are interested to appear for the test can log on to the official website of the Institute of Actuaries of India. This entrance test is conducted twice a year in the month of June and December. Passing out the entrance test provides a ticket to sit for the actuary main exam.
